He's just left for two months... should I tell him how I feel or wait until he gets back?

The guy I like just left on a two month long trip. He used to give obvious signs that he liked me, but I didn't feel the same way until recently, and now he's stopped giving those vibes, though he's still sweet and attentive. We just started hanging out as friends and we've really clicked. He told that he was hesitant to leave now because of "new connections" he was making here and because of what might happen if he stayed. I don't know if he was referring to me or not! He did make a point of telling me he was coming back and that we'd hang out in the future. I don't know if he is saying all of this as a friend, or if it means he has feelings for me. Any opinions?
