Can some help me identify what type of insect bit me in the lake?

I was standing in submerged aquatic weeds in a small lake and I received numerous bites on my legs. The irritation and itching got worse after 24 hours. Someone said it might be duck mites but I don't think they live in aquatic weeds. Does anyone have a clue?
