Holden commodore vu help (australia)?

hi i accidently broke the cruise control stalk or rod and i got a new one and i connected it up correctly. there are only two connectors that need to be connected and now it seems like the rod is keeping the high beam on. if i just tap very lightly on the rod the high beam turn off. what could be the problem here?
