Is it hard to finish a basement yourself?

I am interested in purchasing a house that has an unfinished basement. its in a great location and i love the house, except it has a small living room, and finishing the basement would create a perfect rec/family room and also create create close to an additional 1,000 sq ft! however, the down payment would use up our savings, so being able to afford to hire someone would take some time to save up for. my husband is pretty handy (welder by trade) and we have friends that would more than likely help if we fed them lol. so what all goes into finishing a basement? putting up wood frames, insulating, then drywall right? then of course flooring. but is there anything else to it if you arent moving electrical around?
